America's Wild Horse Advocates | America's Wild Horse Advocates Home About Media Our Mission Welcome! We need your help to keep our nation’s wild horses running free on public lands. Wild horses have been targeted for extinction, because the “cost of management is too high.” Alternatively threatened with slaughter and starvation, time is running out for these living symbols of the American West. America’s Wild Horse Advocates (AWHA) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3), all volunteer organization. We strive to preserve our nation’s wild horses within a balanced ecosystem by encouraging proactive management on public lands, creating public awareness, promoting adoption and placement of excess animals to quality homes and in public service programs, such as mounted police units. America’s Wild Horse Advocates (AWHA) understands the importance of ensuring healthy herds and healthy rangelands. However, while mandated management strategies are well defined, they are being ignored by the very people pledging to implement them. Actual “management” has consisted of little more than sporadic round-ups, with most horses ending up in overcrowded holding facilities, indefinitely. Sound management techniques, along with effective marketing and adoption programs, are the key to ensuring the welfare and humane placement of culled animals, thereby reducing the need for horses-in-holding. The 1971 Free-Roaming Wild Horses and Burros Act was passed by Congress in response to overwhelming public pressure to end the cruelty these animals were enduring at the hands of horse killers. This publicly mandated Act has been under attack by those seeking to permanently remove wild horses from American lands. The public has a right to know of the injustices and betrayals befalling these great-hearted, intelligent, and beautiful animals. Only with your help will our wild horses be preserved for our children and future generations. Please join us to keep them running free and to make certain that the responsible agencies implement and enforce humane and effective management strategies. Become a member of America’s Wild Horse Advocates today. “These horses belong to all the people of America and they exist on lands that belong to all the people of America.” – Velma “Wild Horse Annie” Johnston Links Discover Wild Horses Spring Mountain Alliance BLM's Final Solution ?2013-2015 America's Wild Horse Advocates Whois
